Chasuble, liturgical vestment. Genoese velvet chasuble, patterned, convex, with a regularly repeating motif of a stylized bouquet of flowers in vases enclosed in a thick heart-shaped net. Mesh fastened with palmettes. Colors: sapphire blue ornament on cream-gold background; columns of solid material in gold-beige. Ornamentation partially illegible due to large defects; composed of stylized plant forms. 15th/16th century, Italy possibly France or Genoa. Length 122 cm, width 64 cm back., A single fabric piece with a rounded bottom and a narrower top is laid flat against a pale background; the fabric shows a worn, slightly translucent texture with uneven areas and frayed edges, and displays a muted palette of beige, off-white, light tan, and faint grayish tones with subtle mottled patches of darker tan.
