Chasuble. Chasuble with a column embroidered with colored silk with large, convex flowers on a silver background. Sides of white brocaded silk with navy blue flowers and gold. England, 1740s. The background of the embroidered column is worked in silver threads and stitched in horizontal zigzags with cotton thread; on this background is embroidery in colored silks—flat and gold thread—laid in motifs of floral bouquets tied with a ribbon. Bouquets of three flowers each: two small tulips symmetrically and a large blooming peony. Colors: yellow, green, pink, and blue. Trimmed with gold threads. The columns are edged with silver braid with a scalloped pattern. A fabric gap at the neck is filled with a fragment of embroidered silk grosgrain in a similar color a fragment of a large pattern indicates it may be from a tapestry. Linen lining. Gold embroidery in a flat laid stitch. Metal threads, a silver and gold plate woven on a rather thick linen yarn. Metal threads twisted with colored silk threads in the flower stems and ribbons. Silk embroidery in split, shaded, and flat shaded stitches. 18th century. Embroidery of Polish attribution; fabric of French origin. Liturgical vestment. Length 101.5 cm, width 67 cm back., A decorative vestment displayed flat on a light background shows an overall pale cream fabric with a central vertical panel in a slightly darker tone. The central panel features embroidered floral motifs in muted brown, yellow, green, and pale pink, with textured stitching creating stylized blooms and looping shapes. Flanking panels on either side display repeating floral and foliate embroidery in soft blue and pale cream, with curling stems and rounded flower forms. The garment edge is trimmed with a fringe in golden brown, and the neckline area shows folded fabric and a small amount of the same fringe. The visible colors include cream, pale gold, soft blue, muted brown, yellow, green, and pale pink.
