Back of a chasuble, creator unknown, origin unknown. Grosgrain chasuble with plant tendril ornament arranged in vertical stripes and a lace pattern featuring vines and flowers. Colors: cream background with sand and blue ornament. Trimmed with silver galloon. Front neckline pieced with a different silk fabric. Red cotton lining. 2nd half of the 18th century, France. Liturgical vestment. Back dimensions: length 134 cm, width 64.5 cm., A sleeveless garment laid flat against a pale background, shaped with a deep rounded neckline and long, rectangular body tapering slightly toward the top; the fabric shows a vertical striped pattern with alternating panels of muted gold, cream, and beige tones, some panels featuring floral damask designs in soft brown and green, and others with delicate scrolling floral motifs in pale green and blue; the neckline and edges are finished with a silvery-beige trim that has a slightly ribbed texture, and there is subtle wrinkling and signs of wear in places, especially near the top and center, where small darker areas and faded spots are visible.
