Chasuble, Liturgical vestment made of two types of lace fabrics: the front and sides of the back are silver-colored fabric embellished with a pattern of large plant motifs. The column on the back is satin, straw-colored fabric embellished with colored silk motifs, large fantastic flowers and leaves growing from a small basket. Columns trimmed with silver lace; edges trimmed with wide silver lace. Red silk lining. Height 66 cm; column height 30 cm. Date: 1st quarter of the 18th century front and sides of the back: 1720–25; column on the back: ca. 1715. Place of origin: France. Length 106.5 cm; back width 66 cm., A garment laid flat against a pale background, predominantly showing a deep magenta fabric with an inset central panel of ornate brocade in soft gold, pale green, and muted peach tones; the magenta forms the sleeves and outer border while the brocade panel features an intricate symmetrical floral and foliate pattern with raised metallic threads and a sheen; the brocade is edged with a pale gold trim that outlines the central section and straps, and there are a few areas where the magenta lining is visible at the neckline and edges; overall the piece displays a mix of magenta, gold, green, and peach colors with textured woven details.
