Embroidery: metal thread; embroidery laid and flat on metal thread backings gold-colored plate woven on linen yarn? held with linen yarn. Leaves, stems, and buds embroidered directly on velvet; flower chalice embroidered on a separate linen canvas backing and appliquéd. Materials: fabric from Italy; origin: Poland. Function: liturgical vestment. Dimensions: length 107 cm, width 65.5 cm back., A garment laid flat on a pale background with a rich red velvet central panel and side panels, framed by metallic gold trim and lace; the inner fabric is a light beige or cream color, visible on the shoulders and sides. The red velvet areas have a ribbed texture and a central vertical decorative strip featuring a winding vine with several stylized leaf or bud shapes embroidered in metallic gold thread. The edges of the red panels are bordered with scalloped metallic trim, and the neckline area shows a small section of faded pink fabric beneath the trim. Overall colors visible include deep red, metallic gold, light beige or cream, and a touch of pink.
