Kontusz belt, Aleksander Unrug Manufactory Kobylka; belt manufacturer; 1781–1787. Solid, double-sided Polish kontusz belt; men’s clothing accessory. Bipartite heads with a motif of two rooted and connected twigs with flowers and leaves forming a bouquet; center with carp-scale motif. Longitudinal border of winding tendrils: leaves with flowers and tendrils of small leaves; crosswise border of flower projections with leaves; additional borders with a snake motif. Sewn-on gold fringe metal and cotton. Ornament: heads—two floral motifs consisting of two branches topped with a common trefoil; center—carp scale motif; borders—vertical and horizontal floral tendril motif intertwined with a wavy ribbon. Colors: obverse—gold background of heads and horizontal borders, blue ornament; straw background of vertical borders, gold and blue ornament; blue background in the center with straw-colored scale pattern. Reverse right. Signed in the heads: KOB:/YLKI. Material/density: approx. 22/27 ×2 silk thread; 22/41 ×2 gold thread. Date: 1781–1784. Place of origin: Kobylka, Poland. National costume accessory. Dimensions: length 354 cm, width 28 cm., A rectangular textile panel with a central field of a muted gold background and a repeating decorative motif in a muted blue showing a pair of stylized floral tree forms side by side; the blue motifs include elongated leaves and rounded flower shapes. The top section has a scalloped fish-scale pattern in blue over the same gold background and a narrow floral band below it in blue and gold. The side borders are yellow with a winding vine and small floral motifs in blue and gold, and the bottom edge shows a short fringed trim in gold. The overall visible colors are muted gold, muted blue, and yellow.
