Lace fragment, lace with an ornament carried on two edges by a free tendril and carried diagonally through the central part, creating large fields filled with a net of large knitted meshes; mid-18th century, France; fabric; width 3.5 cm, length 28 cm., A long narrow strip of lace placed against a gray background, showing a delicate openwork pattern with a scalloped top edge and an irregular bottom edge; the lace features a honeycomb-like mesh interspersed with floral and leaf motifs and raised corded outlines, and a small patch of slightly darker fabric is attached near one end; visible colors include off-white and cream in the lace and patch, and gray in the background.
