Fragment of fabric. Silk, one-sided damask with floral and lace motifs; background satin with warp cover; brocaded pattern worked in colorful threads. Symmetrical composition with axis at center of the piece; large ornate bouquets of flowers with heavy decorative heads on slender branches; leaves and parts of the background decorated with a lace ornament resembling poin de neige. Colors: salmon satin ground; brocade threads green, white, blue tied in rows. 1st quarter of the 18th century, France. Dimensions: height 95 cm, width 20 cm., A long rectangular fabric strip with alternating vertical panels of patterned and plain weave, laid flat against a dark background. The patterned panels show floral and foliate motifs with stylized blossoms and scrolls, while the plainer panels have a smoother, less ornate texture. The fabric displays a worn, slightly frayed edge at one end and loose threads along the top and bottom borders. Visible colors include muted gold, pale beige, faded blue, olive green, and touches of tan, with areas of subtle sheen where the weave catches the light.
