Fabric fragment, broached silk damask, early 1st quarter of the 18th century, France. Warp-covered satin ground with green warp. Broaching wefts in light and dark pink, pale and dark blue, celadon, yellow, and salmon; feature threads dark and light pink and white, captured in a weft weave. Unilateral two-color damask effect, with mirror symmetrical lace pattern: floral sprigs along a central axis and serrated lace border with floral bouquets. Stylized yellow and blue-green flowers on a light green background. Preserved selvedge, pile width, and pattern repeat. Pattern width 50 cm; repeat height 48 cm, repeat width 48 cm; edge width 0.6 cm. Fragment dimensions: height 79 cm, width 48 cm., A rectangular textile fragment with a faded pale green ground and an ornate woven border in light beige forming scalloped arches along the top and bottom edges, decorated overall with floral and foliate motifs; the surface shows several embroidered or woven flower clusters and leaves in muted yellow, pale blue, soft pink, and light green, with ivory or cream ornamental scrollwork and delicate vine patterns connecting the motifs; there are visible areas of wear and small tears exposing darker threads, a few darker linear snags, and frayed edges on the left and right sides; the background beyond the textile is a deep black that frames the piece.
