Fabric fragment, origin unknown, early 18th century, France. Fragment cut in the form of a chasuble column with a triangular neckline. Warp-woven liséré satin with a prominent brocaded pattern: blue warp-satin ground with colorful brocade and embroidered threads. Pattern composed of whimsical plant motifs — tiny flowers on slender celadon-green branches and fanciful forms resembling onion-shaped flower buds growing from an ornamentally treated horn-shaped base — and lace-like patterns. Brocade threads: gold, white, pale pink, blue, burgundy; embroidered threads: orange, pink, blue. Right side shows a damask subrapport of liséré satin background and plain weaves decoration; left side has plain weaves. Threads tied in a plain/simple weave. Materials: silk, liséré satin, embellished and brocaded. Report length: 44 cm. Dimensions: height 106 cm, width 23 cm., A long, narrow piece of woven fabric displayed against a dark background, showing a faded, ornate floral and foliate pattern with flowing curved shapes and stylized blossoms. The textile appears worn and torn in places with frayed edges and several small holes and threadbare areas. Visible colors include muted gold, pale green, soft pink, light blue, and touches of deep red, with metallic-looking threads creating highlights. One corner is folded over revealing the reverse side of the weave, and the fabric surface shows irregular discoloration and spots where threads have pulled or been lost.
