Fragment of pink silk brooch fabric with a fanciful and floral pattern in the Bizarr type. Patterned fabric fragment of silk, early 18th century, France. Motifs: arrangement of intertwining tendrils with fanciful forms — some half-vegetal, half-animal fantastic winged dragons, others topped with sharp edges like poppy-head shafts. Weave/technique: satin with warp cover and simple weave background; other motifs brocaded with metal threads; silver metal thread with a loose braid. Colors: pink background; brocades in silver, green, pale pink. Width of the fabric: 54.5 cm. Reported fragment dimensions: height 60 x width 27 cm; overall fabric height 106 cm, width 54 cm., A rectangular piece of patterned fabric displayed against a dark background, primarily in shades of pale pink and dusky rose with accents of olive green and muted gray; the fabric shows a repeating ornamental design of large, sweeping leaf- and petal-like shapes and curved scalloped motifs, with two prominent irregular olive green areas that resemble stylized foliage, and sinuous vine-like bands with small green diamond accents running diagonally; the surface has visible woven texture, sheen from the material, and areas of wear and fraying along the edges and a vertical seam on the right side where the fabric appears patched or overlaid, plus a few small darker smudges and variations in color across the piece.
