Fabric fragment, fragment of silk fabric chiseled velvet with floral pattern. Construction: basic warp and weft with beige silk thread, plain weave; pile with cherry-red silk weft — looped in the background, pattern raised above, sheared. Pattern repeat 0.7 cm x width 8.5 cm. Design: alternating small sprigs of several types arranged with vine and oak leaves and pomegranates or mushrooms, offset in rows by half the pattern width. Dated 1600–1630 after Markowsky; 1st half of the 17th century, Italy. Materials: silk; dimensions: height 16 cm, width 24 cm., A textured fabric with a raised floral and scroll pattern in deep red against a background of slightly lighter red with visible woven texture, with a few areas showing subtle golden highlights; the raised parts appear velvety while the background looks more coarse, and the overall colors visible are shades of red and touches of gold.
