Kontusz belt, Daniel Chmielewski's Studio Kraków; belt manufacturer; 1796–1825. Solid, double-sided kontusz belt woven ca. 1794–1796, Kraków. Length 372 cm, width 37 cm. Weave density approx. 19/32 x2. Golden fringe sewn on. Ornament: - Heads: two motifs of flower bouquets placed in wide vase forms resembling amphoras. - Center: transverse shelf with two types of floral tendrils. - Edges: vertical and horizontal tendrils like on shelves. - Borders: rhombuses and ovals. Colors: - Right side: gold background with brown, green, blue, red and white ornament. - Left side: brown background with gold ornament and the same colors as the right., Two long woven textiles hang side by side against a pale background, each with decorative fringed bottoms. The textile on the left is a light beige color with horizontal bands of floral motifs in soft pastels including pale blue, pink, green, and muted brown, and a narrow floral border along its edges; the lower section shows larger stylized floral arrangements in vases in similar pastel tones above a band of fringe in a pale tan. The textile on the right is a darker brown with repeating horizontal floral rows in colors such as pale green, soft pink, cream, and muted red, a narrow floral border along its edge, and a lower panel with larger floral vase motifs on a darker red ground above a matching pale tan fringe.
