Church cope. Skirt made of olive silk with a warp satin background, brocaded in approximately 13 shades of color. Complex weave structure with a large, elaborate repeat showing a large floral arrangement surrounding a chinoiserie genre scene: two figures in caftans and pointed hats — one standing under an umbrella, the other kneeling with arms crossed — set among lush leaves with fanciful, slightly twisted forms, large fully bloomed flowers, and bursting ripe fruit revealing seed-filled interiors. Part of the cope's skirt under the hood has been cut out; that area is covered by a hood of a different fabric of similar color. Pattern motifs with a symmetrical composition displayed against a taffeta-weave background. Paperwork threads: purple, light and dark pink, yellow, light and dark olive, pale celadon, yellow-green olive-brown, light brown, light pink-raspberry, dark pink-raspberry, light salmon, dark salmon, light blue, dark blue. Hood roughly square in shape and lined with linen. Plate width: 51.5–52 cm; selvage width: 0.4 cm; repeat: height 44.5 cm, width 26 cm. Date: 1735–1740, France. Liturgical vestment. Length 126 cm; width 304 cm., A semicircular textile with a muted golden-brown background patterned all over with floral and leafy motifs in faded green, pale blue, soft pink, and olive tones, featuring a central darker brown semicircular panel edged with a pleated golden trim and topped by three fabric rosettes, a narrow horizontal band near the straight edge, and two small looped tabs at the top with visible fraying and worn edges.
