Fabric fragment. 17th century, Italy . Warp-woven satin background of pale red silk warp with two alternating wefts white and yellow forming the pattern by the lisère technique—floating runs in diagonal, fairly wide bands. Brooching wefts: green and beige. High fabric tightness. Pattern report 29 x 17.5 cm. Floral motifs in three types, arranged closely: two kinds of carnations rows facing left or right, tulips with drooping calyxes, and roses with spread petals, with smaller flower projections scattered between them, facing different directions. Flower colors and elements vary—white and yellow stems and leaves, green and beige calyxes. Materials: silk; satin with a two-color weft. Dimensions: height 112 cm, width 28.5 cm., A long, narrow, irregularly shaped piece of fabric with frayed and torn edges, shown against a plain light gray background; the fabric has a faded golden-brown base color with a repeating floral and foliate pattern woven in lighter gold and muted green, and accents of pale brown and tan; there are several holes and worn areas, especially near the upper portion, and the surface shows creases and areas of discoloration; small loose threads hang from the sides and bottom, and a few small rectangular remnants are attached near the lower edge.
