Fabric fragment, fragments of silk patterned fabric with plant motifs, indigo and Brazilwood dyes. Semi-silk with a red satin-weave background and brocaded decoration using two types of braided metal thread with yellow and white cores. The vertically arranged pattern shows waving, fanciful flowered and leafy branches covered with small leaves and large oval stylized flower heads alternating left and right in horizontal rows referred to as pomponblüten. Floated and brocaded with double metal thread gold plate on yellow core and silver plate on white core. Continuous pattern along the length on a red background—symmetrical trails of regularly bending gold twigs with leaves, fruit, and two types of flower heads with silver centers. Construction: satin-warp weave; thicker red cotton wefts and red silk warps give stiffness. Weaving edge 0.3–0.4 cm wide with an orange cotton warp and cherry cotton weft in plain weave. Pattern repeat c. 10.5 cm. Tapestry-like brocaded satin, likely 17th century, probably Italy. Overall fragment dimensions: height 20 cm, width 42 cm., A rectangular piece of fabric with a deep pink background featuring a repeating floral and vine pattern woven in a metallic gold thread; the fabric shows frayed edges and a few loose threads, with visible weave texture and subtle variations in the pink color, and there is a small patch of white material attached near one corner.
