Fabric fragment, fragments of silk patterned semi-silk fabric with a red background in a satin weave and brocaded decoration using two types of braided metal thread with yellow and white cores. Vertically arranged pattern of a waving, fanciful flowered and leafy branch with small leaves and large oval heads of stylized pompon flowers alternating in horizontal rows. Dyes: indigo, brazilwood. Semi-silk satin, brocaded. Weaving edge: 0.3 cm wide, orange cotton warp and cherry cotton weft in plain weave. Construction: satin warp weave; thicker red cotton wefts and red silk warp giving stiffness. Pattern introduced with brocade wefts using two types of loosely braided threads – a gold plate on a yellow cotton core and a silver plate on a white cotton core. Continuous longitudinal pattern on a red background of symmetrical trails of bending gold twigs with leaves, fruit, and two types of flower heads with silver centers. Pattern repeat width 10.5 cm. Selvedge width 0.3–0.4 cm. I-thread: yellow cotton core with loosely braided gold plate; II-thread: white cotton core braided with silver plate. Dated to the 17th century, Italy. Dimensions: height 20 cm, width 42 cm., A rectangular textile fragment with a deep pink background featuring a repeating floral vine pattern woven in golden yellow with small areas of pale off-white; the pattern shows rounded flower heads and leaf clusters connected by curving stems, with some frayed edges and loose threads along the perimeter, and the weave texture of the fabric is visible.
