Fragment of patterned velvet fabric, 17th/18th century, Italy . Multi-colored chiseled cut and looped pile velvet on a cream satin weave ground cream silk warp and weft. Patterned velvet in which parts of the pattern have two pile heights—cut higher and looped lower—creating a contour effect. Colors: cherry red, burgundy, dusty yellow, honey-yellow, gray-blue, dark green. Design: symmetrical ; large, multi-flowered, densely leafed bouquets exceeding the width of the piece, depicting tulips, lilies, daffodils, roses; flower calyxes and leaves rendered in natural colors fiori naturali. Preserved silk weaving edge, width 1.6 cm, with green-beige-white-yellow stripes. Dimensions: height 40 cm, width 31.5 cm. Fragment of silk fabric;, A rectangular piece of frayed fabric with a floral pattern showing a group of leaves and flowers in shades of green, gold, burgundy, and muted blue on a worn cream background; the textile has areas of exposed threads and torn edges with a strip of woven edge in green and cream at the bottom, and the overall surface shows varied textures from smooth to raised pile and some loose fibers.
