Fabric fragment, fragments of silk patterned fabric, patterned purple looped velvet with plant motifs. Plant tendril made of small fanciful floral twigs in asymmetrical arrangements creating a net pattern. Weave construction: grosgrain background with silk and linen weft in a natural color, purple silk warp; looped silk purple cover. Dense plant composition, finely curved twigs with a variety of leaves and flowers, arranged in rows with a half-report shift and with the calyx of the dominant flower tilted alternately left or right. Design report length 24.7 x width 13.2 cm. Maker: Justyna Boninska, 17th century, Italy. Fabric dimensions: height 110 cm, width 18 cm. Materials/dyes noted: silk, linen; cochineal and indigo dyes., A vertical image shows two long fabric pieces side by side against a pale gray background. The left piece has a beige base with an intricate dark purple floral damask pattern running across its length and a slightly curved upper end. The right piece is a solid deep purple with a subtle woven texture, a few small lighter spots, and a similarly curved upper end. The fabrics display slightly frayed edges and a few irregularities along their sides.
