Zupan, Polish men's clothing national costume, long zupan fitted at the top and flared at the bottom. Fastened with hooks and eyes at the neck with a concealed fastening; low stand-up collar. Long set-in tapered sleeves with turn-up cuffs, slit at the bottom and fastened with hooks and eyes. Back cut like a kontusz with a central column of fabric, widened from the waist by semi-flared pleats, adjustable at the top with ribbons. Pockets in the side seams. Silk satin with pearl-brown stripes; back and lining of gray linen canvas. Hand-sewn, 18th/19th century, Poland. Length 118 cm; bottom circumference 243 cm., A mannequin dressed in a long black outer garment with a high collar and long sleeves, layered over a beige striped inner garment; a decorative sash with a patterned panel and long beige fringe hangs around the waist, showing a section with deep pink and cream stripes alongside intricate floral and geometric motifs in muted beige, blue, and brown tones; a pair of long gold cords with tassels drape from the collar, and the background is a neutral gray.
