Zupan, noted. Polish clothing; painter Franciszek Teodor Eysmond 1859–1931 associated. Geometric ornaments; men's fashion, national costume. Long zupan, fitted at the top, flared at the bottom. Fastened with hooks and eyes to the neck, concealed fastening. Low stand-up collar. Long set-in tapered sleeves with turn-up cuffs, slit at the bottom and fastened with hooks and eyes. Back cut like a kontusz with a central column of fabric, widened from the waist by semi-flared pleats, adjustable at the top with ribbons. Pockets in the side seams. Silk satin with pearl-brown stripes. Back and lining of gray linen canvas. Hand-sewn. 18th/19th century, Poland. Length 118 cm; bottom circumference 243 cm., A long, light-colored striped coat displayed on a black mannequin neck, with a high collar and long sleeves; the coat shows subtle vertical stripes in beige and off-white tones, with areas of slightly darker discoloration and faint stains; the sleeves have small turned cuffs, and the front has a central seam with a narrow opening toward the bottom; the background is a neutral gray.
