Baby's jacket, Repossession provenance. Clothing; children's clothing; baptismal garment. Baby's jacket made of weft-weave cotton fabric, decorated throughout with Saxon embroidery featuring motifs of stylized flowers, palmettes, and leaves twining on long branches. At the front, the main axis of the embroidery is marked by a row of heart-shaped palmettes. Among the stylized floral forms of embroidery are daffodils and carnations. Along the edges is a trail with a plant twig motif. Slit at the back and tied with four pairs of ribbons. Semi-circular neckline. Long, deeply set-in sleeves, finished with rolled cuffs, decorated with the Italian quilting technique. Unaltered. 1st half of the 18th century. Germany, Silesia. Fabrics. Length 47 cm; width 64 cm bottom., A long garment with sleeves laid flat against a smooth background, showing a textured, embroidered surface and a center opening with ties; the fabric appears off-white to cream with intricate raised floral and foliate patterns; the sleeves are three-quarter length with turned-back cuffs revealing the same off-white to cream tones; the background is a solid medium gray.
