Embroidery with a metal plate laid flat and held in a cross-stitch manner with silk yarn and placed on a silk base and a linen string base description of the embroidery technique. 16th/17th century, Poland, liturgical vestment, height 19 cm, width 21 cm., A square textile with a worn red background features a central embroidered figure on a cross in metallic gold and pale beige threads with a small accent of blue, surrounded by an ornate border of undulating metallic gold lines and filled floral or fruit motifs in gold and pale beige with touches of blue and yellow; the textile shows areas of lighter and darker red wear and fraying at the edges, set against a neutral gray backdrop.
