A central figure in a decorative uniform with a tall hat rides a pale horse that is stepping forward, while nearby another rider on a darker horse gestures outward. Several other figures in uniform appear in the middle and background, some carrying long poles or rifles. In the foreground, a fallen figure lies on the ground wearing a dark coat with lighter trim. The landscape includes grassy mounds, rocky ground, and a body of water depicted with pale and grayish tones, and a round object floats near the water’s edge. Trees and indistinct architectural shapes are visible in the background. The piece is bordered by a patterned woven frame in shades of brown, black, red, and gold.
