Figural tapestry: Pastoral scene with a shepherd, a shepherdess, and a boy. In the center, a man with a knot on a stick, accompanied by a boy and a woman with a switch, head right toward a distant village. In the foreground a goat and a flock of sheep, a donkey emerging from behind the woman. Scene flanked by tall columns decorated with garlands of interwoven flowers; above, between the columns, a garland supports the architrave. Smaller flower garlands hang from a pendant entwining a shepherd's hat, staff, and wineskin. Colors: light cream background, multi-colored flower garlands predominating in pink and green whitish tones. Fabrics with similar pastoral love scenes were popular from the late 1770s and were modeled on drawings by Jean-Baptiste Marie Huet 1745–1811. Dated ca. 1750–1780, France. Materials: textiles tapestry/weaving. Dimensions: height 220 cm, width 180 cm., A rectangular woven textile with a pale cream background framed by two tall fluted columns on the left and right, each wrapped in garlands of roses and leaves in shades of pink, red, blue, green, and cream; a decorative swag of flowers in similar colors drapes between the columns near the top, with a suspended ornamental medallion of ribbons and flowers centered above; the lower scene shows a pastoral tableau with a group of sheep in muted browns and creams amid green and blue foliage, a figure wearing a hat and simple clothing in earthy browns standing among the animals, and another figure in a long dress with pink and cream tones holding a staff near a donkey; the foreground contains varied plants and flowers in greens, blues, and pinks, while the top border includes a narrow band with golden yellow and beige tones.
