Tapestry depicting religious imagery: In the foreground left St. John writing in a book, above him an angel pointing at the city. On the right, the Heavenly Jerusalem; outside the walls Christ as the Good Shepherd with sheep; above the city God emerging from the clouds and the Holy Spirit as a dove. Border with bunches of flowers and fruit and medallions: side medallions personifications of virtues; top cartouche with the Debno and Labedz coats of arms; bottom medallion inscription: ETVITAM/AETERNAM/AMEN. Colors: sand, navy blue, green, red, and pink. Early 17th century dating narrowed by Jerzy Samson Podbereski’s marriage before 1602 and death 1629/1630. Poland, Material: fabric. Height 284 cm, width 232 cm., A rectangular textile with a pale beige fabric border and a cross-like beige strip pattern over a colorful woven panel, showing a series of painted or embroidered scenes divided into sections. The visible scenes include a figure seated and draped in blue and reddish-brown garments, holding an object, a winged creature with multicolored feathers, an architectural scene with a domed structure, pastoral areas with a few animals and plants, and decorative floral borders. The palette includes beige, blue, gold, green, red, brown, and hints of pink and white. The textile shows folds, seams, and areas of wear, and the central panel is framed by a floral ornamental band with repeated flower motifs in assorted colors.
