Weave: background in a grosgrain weave with a texture enriched by released weft threads creating a complementary ornament liseré; brocaded with colored threads. Pattern: projections of small stylized flower sprigs with large, fantastic blooms. Flowers in horizontal and vertical rows, changing direction with each row. Colors: white background ornament; white, lemon, orange, celadon, olive. Repeat: 9.5 x 16.5 cm. Date: 1740–1760. Place of origin: France. Object type: fabric. Height 29 cm, width 22.5 cm., A rectangular piece of pale beige fabric with a repeating floral embroidery motif in shades of golden yellow, brown, and muted olive, set against a background of subtle pale gray woven scrollwork; the fabric shows raw frayed edges and loose threads, and is mounted on a dark brown backing that frames it on all sides.
