Trims of silver; 17th-century galloon. Embroidery on linen backings of varied heights, applied to silk satin; silk thread split stitch for body parts, metal thread laid stitch for other elements. Metal threads in gold and silver: cut plate, plate woven on linen base, drawn wire. 17th century, Poland. Fabric; height 85 cm, width 126 cm., A rectangular textile with a worn deep red background bordered by tan and dark gray bands, featuring a central oval medallion outlined in tan and dark gray with a figure inside rendered in faded gold and gray tones, flanked on either side by a pair of standing winged figures made of similar gold and gray stitched fabric holding stylized branches, all showing areas of fraying and threadbare wear that reveal lighter tan patches and underlying fibers.
