Antependium, antependium; dark yellow velvet with appliquéd decoration of stylized palmettes and flowers in vases in the Louis XIV style; appliqué of gold lace and fragments of gold lamé; edges trimmed with gold galloon; 18th–19th century, Poland; fabric; height 102 cm, width 222 cm., A rectangular textile with a burnt orange background framed by a narrow pale gold border, featuring an ornate symmetrical embroidered band across the upper portion in muted gold and gray tones; the embroidery forms a repeating pattern of stylized floral and foliate motifs with curved, scalloped and lacy shapes, bulbous hanging elements, and flowing tendrils that create mirrored pairs and central vertical designs, with areas of fine mesh-like stitching and solid filled shapes; the overall palette shows burnt orange, pale gold, gray, and subtle brown variations, and the fabric displays slight variations in texture and sheen.
