Church napkin. Thin white linen sewn from five rectangular pieces in the shape of a cross. Embroidered with evenly spaced projections of stylized floral sprigs in gold, dark pink, and straw. One side rectangle bears an embroidered gold IHS monogram within a halo. On the opposite rectangle, on the edge, is the inscription: ANNA Z RUSOCKICH ORZECHOWSKA. R. 1743. 1743. Poland. Fabrics. Function: church paraments / church napkin; imagery: flowers, leaves, plant ornaments; sacred art., A textile arranged in a cross shape lies flat against a dark gray background, consisting of a central rectangular panel with extensions at the top, bottom, left, and right. The fabric is predominantly off-white to cream with visible wrinkles and a few small spots and stains, and it is patterned with a repeated floral motif in light beige and pale brown across most panels. The top panel shows a repeating small floral motif in pale pink and light red on an off-white ground. The central panel has a large irregular discolored area with darker brown speckles and smudges. The right horizontal panel includes a sunburst-like emblem in a muted gold or ochre color. Overall colors visible include off-white, cream, pale pink, light red, beige, pale brown, muted gold or ochre, dark brown in spots, and dark gray in the background.
