Wall-hanging embroidered in fine cross-stitch depicting a symbolic scene: in the foreground a wounded soldier; behind him a column inscribed Praga, Ostroleka, Warsaw. In the background an angel; below, a gun carriage covered with a pall and the White Eagle. Trim of dark cherry plush. An angel, also draped in a pall, points to the inscription Once. Behind the uhlan are a scythe and lance with a pennant leaning against the column. In front of the uhlan are banners on the ground, next to them a White Eagle. In the lower right corner are the letters and date HL1831. 1831, Poland; fabrics; height 70 cm, width 70 cm., A textile panel framed by a wide dark red border shows a scene woven in muted colors on a beige background: a seated figure in a dark blue outfit with yellow trim rests on a green patch of ground, holding a long staff and facing toward a draped stone structure covered partially by a dark purple cloth; a pale bird-like figure stands near the stone with a folded wing, and an upright robed figure with a pale face appears above the seated person; there is a tall red vertical element behind the seated figure and several green plant-like leaves on either side, with additional green and brown grassy patches underfoot and touches of pink, grey, black, and cream throughout the woven composition.
