Lace fragment, Mid-19th century, France. Section of a straight strip used as a background for a floral point clair ornament. Edge is a narrow strip with a leaf motif. Above is a floral tendril composed by repeating bouquets, with a carnation cornflower? flower in the center. Next to the tendril are small dots in a regular pattern. Lace, width 10.5 cm, length 162 cm., A strip of delicate lace with a repeating floral pattern set against a gray background, the lace rendered in a cream or off-white color; the top edge shows a scalloped trim with small loops, below which a row of ornate flower and leaf motifs are connected by fine netting; the lower portion features a hexagonal mesh with occasional tiny raised knots, and the bottom edge is finished with a narrow stitched border; overall tones visible are cream or off-white and gray.
