Lace fragment, plant ornaments. Preserved ruffle fragment features a symmetrical ornament of a central arch with three pinnacles. Serrated edge decorated with a wide band of edge ornament composed of arch segments with geometric ornament and an interwoven tendril from a band of plant-geometric ornament. 19th century, France. Lace, width 38 cm, length 74 cm., A scalloped piece of delicate black lace fabric with an ornate floral and foliate pattern laid flat against a neutral gray background; the lace shows a central arched motif with dense embroidered detailing and dotted netting, flanked by symmetrical botanical sprays and scrolling leaves, and a lower scalloped border of dense floral embroidery and openwork; loose threads and small frayed edges are visible along the outer edges, and a small fabric tag is attached near one corner.
