Lace fragment, Alençon lace, lace; plant ornaments. At the bottom, an edging ornament running in a clearly separated strip, with plant motifs and an openwork form resembling the letter S repeated regularly. Higher on the mesh, oval stripes between which projections: small diameter points. 1st half of the 18th century, France. Material: fabric. Width 17 cm, length 206 cm., A horizontal strip of delicate lace fabric in a pale cream color lies against a muted gray background, showing an upper scalloped edge with ornate looping floral motifs and a lower straight edge with a finer scalloped trim; the main body of the lace displays a repeating vertical pattern of open oval chain-like columns separated by mesh areas dotted with small raised bobbles, and the overall texture appears lightweight and finely netted with subtle variations in thread thickness and tiny decorative loops along the borders.
