Lace fragment, Alençon lace, lace, At the bottom, an edging ornament running in a clearly separated strip, in the ornament plant motifs and an openwork form resembling the letter S repeated regularly. Higher on the mesh, oval stripes between which projections: small diameter points. 1st half of the 18th century, France. Lace, fabric; width 17 cm, length 206 cm. Unknown creator; purchase provenance., A length of delicate lace fabric displayed horizontally against a smooth gray background, showing an off-white or cream color with intricate patterns; the top edge features a scalloped decorative border with floral and looping motifs, followed by a band of fine netting filled with evenly spaced small raised dots and vertical undulating chain-like lines made of rounded linked shapes, and the bottom edge ends with a narrow embroidered hem with a subtle wavy outline, all textures appearing fine, airy, and lacy with visible openwork and raised embroidery.
