Tapestry, Turkish, late 17th century. Fragment trimmed on one side with an olive-colored silk border. At the top a stylized plant ornament forms a mihrab niche; a lamp hangs from the top of the niche. Below, in the center, a vase with a stylized bouquet of flowers in a symmetrical arrangement. Plain red plain-weave background; pattern brocaded with braided silver metal thread. Silk fabrics; height 280 cm, width 76 cm., A vertical piece of fabric with a predominant deep pink or magenta field and a narrow gold vertical border along the right edge, featuring ornate gold woven motifs: a large floral-medallion motif near the upper center, a smaller vase-like motif lower down connected by a decorative stem, and an ornate scalloped band with circular floral designs and a fringe-like patterned border running near the bottom; the fabric shows slight variations in texture and subtle darker and lighter areas, and the visible colors are deep pink or magenta and gold.
