Fragment of a belt with a continuous pattern of alternating silhouetted tendrils with an iris motif and colorful tendrils with saxophone leaves and symmetrical palmettes. Border of floral tendrils and medallions with portraits of men in turbans. Background of the continuous belts: navy blue and gold-lipped. Background of the border belt: gold-lipped; background in the cartouche with a male bust - silver-white. The silhouetted motifs in the shelves are similar to other known Persian belt patterns. The warp is made of salmon-colored silk yarn; the weft is gold metal thread wrapped around a silk thread. Preserved only in fragments; part of the hem was cut from the body and sewn along the length of what was likely a severed head. Early 17th century, Iran; clothing accessory; height 115 cm, width 32 cm., A rectangular woven textile laid flat against a dark background, showing horizontal patterned bands with floral and foliate motifs in metallic gold and muted beige, with accents of blue, green, and pale pink; a border along the long edges contains a repeating circular medallion motif in pale blue and white with subtle orange and brown touches, and the fabric surface displays gentle folds and areas of wear that create small wrinkles and slight irregularities in the woven pattern.
