Ground is satin with warp-faced fabric; ornament executed in plain weave. Colors: background in four shades of pink, transverse stripes of twill and pink satin, white satin ribbon along the length. Warps in white and pink; wefts bound with a twill weave in three shades of salmon pink and white. Dimensions of fragment: 18 x 17.5 cm; edge width: 0.5 cm. Date: second half of the 18th century; probable origin: Sweden. Overall dimensions noted: height 43 cm, width 22 cm., A rectangular piece of worn fabric laid flat against a dark background shows a repeating floral and stripe pattern; the fabric has a pale base color with floral motifs in a muted red and leaflike details in a light green or gray, and there are horizontal bands of alternating solid and textured stripes in the muted red and pale base color. The edges are frayed and uneven with some loose threads, and there are areas where the weave is damaged or missing. The floral clusters are scattered across the central area, framed by curved decorative scallop-like elements in the pale base and muted red, and the striped bands run along the top and bottom portions. The overall visible colors are pale off-white, muted red, light green or gray, and small darker shadowed areas from the background.
