Ribbons filled with single circles; inside the ovals are palmettes with a central bouquet of flowers. Around the ovals are winding stems of small flowers. Red velvet background with cream and silver patterns. Satin and weft weaves; sheared velvet. 16th century, Turkey. Dimensions: height 154 cm, width 63 cm., The image shows a patterned textile with a dominant deep red background and large areas of muted gold forming ornamental shapes. The design includes a central medallion shape with jagged edges, floral and vine motifs, circular linked elements, and teardrop or bud-like shapes. The gold patterning contrasts with the worn red velvet-like background, and the textile surface shows areas of wear and texture variation. The overall composition is symmetrical with repeating decorative motifs in gold against the red field.
