One of eight fragments of embroidery from a liturgical vestment with three figures of saints depicted in niches: from the top a saint with a book and spear Maurycy, below a saint with a book and tongs Agata, at the bottom a holy deacon with a book. Embroidery and appliqué on linen canvas. Embroidery laid with gold and silver thread, embroidered with colored silk threads — or nue, and flat, split with silk threads. Floors and architecture columns and vaults on a string base. Colors: gold, sky blue, blue, green, pink, red. 1st half of the 16th century, Netherlands; height 112 cm, width 10 cm., A narrow vertical textile depicting a stacked sequence of three standing figures within ornate framed niches, bordered by a woven trim; the top figure wears a red outer garment over a light inner robe and holds a staff, standing on a patterned tiled platform with blue and yellow tones beneath an arched canopy with gold and blue decorative elements; the middle figure wears a blue outer garment over a light robe and holds a staff and a book, standing on a checkered platform with green and yellow tones beneath an arch with gold and blue ornamentation; the lower figure wears a green outer garment over a light robe and holds a dish, standing on a checkered platform with yellow and blue tones beneath a similar arched decorative motif; overall colors include gold, red, blue, green, yellow, cream, and beige, with metallic thread highlights and a neutral gray background visible around the textile.
