Fabric fragment, 17th century, Italy. Brocaded and morayon grosgrain silk. Weft grosgrain construction with blue silk warp and weft; pattern brocaded with silk threads held with a weft weave in dark pink, beige, salmon, white, and a gold-plated thread braided on a white silk core moriated. Design: loosely scattered smaller and larger floral sprigs on a blue background; stems and leaves in white with petals outlined in red and salmon-pink and filled with gold or left plain; probably larger bushes in two alternating-row types with smaller elements between. Motif size reported 14 x 10.5 cm; preserved fragment dimensions height 57 cm, width 24 cm; selvedge 0.4 cm wide blue and beige silk threads. Weaving edge: 0.4 cm wide silk with blue and beige stripes., A rectangular piece of worn woven fabric lies flat against a dark background, showing a muted blue-gray ground with visible vertical and horizontal weave texture and areas of fraying along the edges; several floral motifs in faded gold, beige, and reddish tones appear scattered across the surface, with one cluster near the center featuring red-outlined blossoms and surrounding pale gold leaves, another group toward the right edge showing gold and beige flowers with some loose threads, and smaller gold ornamental motifs near the top and bottom edges; there are a few repaired or worn slashes with darker blue stitching visible on the left side and faint irregular discolorations across the fabric.
