Fragment of fabric, silk, patterned with floral motifs. Pattern with a symmetrical composition of fantasy-floral motifs: lilac branches entwined with silver leaves stylized into a Rococo ornament. Background: gros de Tours green, pattern brocaded with threads tied in a weft weave: lemon, celadon, light and dark pink, white, silver braided thread, brown. 1st half 18th century, France. Piece height 54.5 cm, width 36 cm; piece width listed 54.5 cm; border width 0.6 cm., A rectangular piece of fabric with a dark olive-green background shows worn embroidered motifs in muted yellow, pink, pale blue, and brown. The fabric has a central pink ornamental shape flanked by symmetrical pink and pale blue decorative elements, connected by bands and scroll-like patterns in yellow. There are several frayed edges and loose threads around the perimeter, and areas where the embroidery appears abraded or missing, revealing the underlying weave. Small patches of pale blue and yellow appear near the corners, and faded pink clusters are visible toward the top and sides. A narrow vertical dark seam or fold runs behind the fabric.
