Travel armchair, late Baroque type, carved and gilded, with a high flat backrest, cabriole legs that arc into a wavy-cut bottom frame, and S-shaped armrests whose supports end in a common volute. Trapezoidal seat and backrest cushions, reupholstered in red damask imitating large-scale Baroque fabrics. Recessed, removable backrest upholstery after removing the upper frame mounted on steel pins and decorated with acanthus leaves, a checkered pattern, and a cartouche filled with an acanthus finial. Frame decorated with palmettes and rosettes impressed in chalk-glue; legs framed with a half-cylinder. Hinges connecting front and rear frames made of steel, primed and gilded on the outside. Dated 1710–1725; probable origin Germany. Seating piece, height 175 cm, width 73 cm, depth 64 cm., A tall ornate chair with a carved gilded wooden frame and a richly patterned upholstery in shades of deep red and rose; the high back and seat display a damask-like floral design, and the armrests curve into scroll shapes with gilded carved details. The legs are cabriole style with gilded carving and volutes at the feet, and the top of the back features an elaborate carved crest in gold. The visible colors are gold, deep red, rose, and a neutral gray background.
