Table, Neo-Baroque, richly carved table with a rectangular mosaic top supported by four supports in the form of caryatids transforming into dolphins at the bottom, connected by an openwork frame. The frame on the long sides consists of an acanthus coat-of-arms cartouche held by a pair of mermaids; the side frames are composed of an acanthus cartouche and an acanthus twig with flowers. On the dolphins, which serve as the feet of the legs, sit putti in loincloths. Nude female figures, with corals around their necks, support the tabletop with their right hand, left hands resting on their hips. The mosaic is set into the tabletop with a profiled carved border a braid with a plant twig; the figurative scene is framed by a wide border with a meander. On the left, a woman kneeling on her left knee with a branch in her left hand; on the right, a man in a tunic, with his right hand raised and a spear in his left. The composition is decorated in shades of gray, blue, and beige with brown. The foot and edge of the tabletop are stained dark brown, polished. 1840–1860, Italy, piece of furniture. Height 74.3 cm; width 137.5 cm; depth 75 cm., A carved wooden table with a dark brown finish stands against a neutral gray background, its square top edged with ornate molding and an inset panel showing patterned inlay in muted beige, cream, red, and green tones; the apron is richly carved with scrolling motifs, and the support consists of a group of sculpted female figures emerging from sinuous, carved lower sections that end in curled, hooflike bases, with smaller putti-like figures carved near the feet; the wood surface shows polished highlights and deeper reddish-brown shadows across the figures and carvings.
