Chair, furnishings of representative buildings of the Republic of Poland 1918–1939, Administration of the Imperial Palaces in Warsaw 1815–1915, eagles, plant decoration, landscapes, Empire style. Mahogany chair with a padded seat removable cushion and an openwork backrest topped with an arched pelta-shaped board supported by a pair of eagles. The front legs are club-shaped, with the upper section carved with acanthus leaves; the rear legs are angular, curved outward in an arched manner. The seat and frame are straight at the front, arched at the back. The backrest rails are an extension of the rear legs, one-third of the height is arched inward, fastened at the bottom with a turned black link. Early 19th century, Warsaw; seating furniture; height 83.1 cm, width 48 cm, depth 52 cm., The image shows the upper portion of a wooden chair with a curved top rail that has rounded scroll ends and a rectangular inset panel; the chair back has two carved vertical supports topped with gilded decorative elements shaped like stylized bird heads; the wood is a warm brown with a polished finish, the gilded decorations are gold, and a horizontal stretcher between the supports is dark, almost black; the visible seat upholstery at the bottom edge has a pale blue background with lighter stripes; the background behind the chair is white.
