Painter's cassette, Travel painter's cassette, cuboid mahogany box with corners of body and lid reinforced with recessed brass sheets. Bottom of body has a drawer blocked by a brass pin inserted from above. Interior front has a row of compartments wider in middle, square at sides; behind them two removable containers—upper with five compartments three wide, separated by narrow ones, lower flat container with round sockets for faience paint vessels. Includes a steel pen holder; nine paintbrushes three flat, six round, various numberings; makers include Pelikan and Z. Dudek Warszawa; five cylindrical glass containers; eight porcelain bowls signed Cmielów / MADE / IN POLAND; a set of watercolors 54 pans; a stick of black Chinese ink; and a resin stick. Bottom backed with green cloth. Inside lid a cardboard and red leather file folder closed with two small brass bolts. Mortise lock with two sliding hook bolts; brass lock plate in form of an elongated disc. Brass and slate hinges. Brass drawer handle similar to a wheel. Dated 1830–1840, Europe. Materials/technique: mahogany, brass hardware. Dimensions: height 12 cm, width 39 cm, depth 25.5 cm., A wooden box with brass corner and hinge accents sits open on a neutral light gray-beige surface, revealing an interior lined with bright red fabric on the lid and divided wooden compartments in the base; inside the compartments are a few small white ceramic dishes, two clear glass containers—one with a yellowish liquid and one with a dark red residue—and a group of wooden-handled paintbrushes with pale bristles resting across the box.
