Armchair, attributed to Jean-Baptiste Oudry 1686–1755 and an unknown co-creator; carved, gilded, and upholstered Rococo armchair in the à la reine style. Tapestry upholstery Aubusson and/or Beauvais? featuring scenes from Jean de La Fontaine's fables framed with flowers: backrest depicts an insect nest in a landscape illustration of The Hornets and the Bees, seat depicts The Wolf and the Lamb by a stream. Decorative motifs: wolves, lambs, insects, flowers, bees, plant decoration, shells, rocaille elements, acanthus leaves, bunches of roses. Form: roughly rectangular backrest with slightly concave side rails, convex top and rounded corners; trapezoidal seat with slightly bulging frames; recessed, volute-topped armrests on U-shaped supports; S-shaped cabriole legs with acanthus-shaped volute feet. Function: seating piece. Date: 3rd quarter of the 18th century. Place of origin: France. Dimensions: height 106.5 cm; width 77.5 cm; depth 79.4 cm., A decorative upholstered chair seat seen from above showing an embroidered pastoral scene with a dog-like animal and a lamb on a landscape, surrounded by ornate floral and scrollwork motifs; the upholstery features a palette of muted colors including beige, cream, soft pink, dusty rose, sage green, olive, pale blue, and gold, with gilt carved wooden armrests and small round decorative nailheads.
