Armchair by Jean-Baptiste Oudry 1686–1755 and unknown co-creator; carved, gilded, and upholstered à la reine-style Rococo armchair seat, backrest, and armrests with tapestry upholstery featuring scenes from Jean de La Fontaine's fables framed with flowers. Backrest depicts an insect nest against a landscape illustration of the tale The Hornets and the Bees; seat depicts a wolf and a lamb by a stream The Wolf and the Lamb. Design details: backrest roughly rectangular with slightly concave side rails, convex top, rounded corners and clearance; trapezoidal seat with slightly bulging frames; recessed, volute-topped armrests resting on U-shaped supports; S-shaped legs with acanthus-shaped volute feet. Carved floral decoration with acanthus leaves, shells, flowers, rocaille elements and bunches of roses. Rococo style, 3rd quarter of the 18th century, France. Upholstery possibly Aubusson or Beauvais. Furniture type: seating piece. Dimensions: height 106.5 cm, width 77.5 cm, depth 79.4 cm., The image shows an ornate upholstered armchair with a carved wooden frame finished in gold. The chair has a high back and curved arms with decorative scroll details and nailhead trim along the upholstery edges. The fabric features floral patterns in muted tones including pink, green, beige, and cream, with areas of faded color. The carved legs and apron are gilded and have ornamental motifs and curved shapes. The background is a smooth, even light gray.
