Armchair, attributed to Jean-Baptiste Oudry 1686–1755 and unknown co-creator; carved, gilded, and upholstered seating piece in the Rococo à la reine style. Tapestry upholstery Aubusson and/or Beauvais? depicting scenes from Jean de La Fontaine's fables framed with flowers: backrest shows an insect nest in a landscape — illustration of the tale The Hornets and the Bees — and the seat shows The Wolf and the Lamb wolf and lamb by a stream. Upholstery includes wolves, lambs, plant decoration, insects, flowers, bees. Cabriole/S-shaped legs with acanthus-shaped volute feet; backrest roughly rectangular with slightly concave side rails, convex top and rounded corners; trapezoidal seat with slightly bulging frames; recessed, volute-topped armrests on U-shaped supports. Carved floral ornamentation with acanthus leaves, shells, rocaille elements and rose clusters. 3rd quarter of the 18th century, France. Dimensions: height 106.5 cm, width 77.5 cm, depth 79.4 cm., A decorative upholstered chair seen from the back and slightly angled, with a carved wooden frame finished in gold showing ornate scroll and floral details; the back panel is covered in a light cream fabric, while the seat and arm pads are upholstered in a patterned fabric with tones of pink, red, blue, green, and beige; the chair has curved legs and carved arm supports in gold, and the background is a neutral pale gray.
