Armchair by Jean-Baptiste Oudry 1686–1755 and unknown co-creator; carved, gilded, and upholstered Rococo armchair in the à la reine style, 3rd quarter of the 18th century, France. Tapestry upholstery possibly Aubusson or Beauvais featuring scenes from Jean de La Fontaine's fables framed with flowers: backrest depicts an insect nest against a landscape illustration of The Hornets and the Bees; seat depicts a wolf and a lamb by a stream The Wolf and the Lamb. Motifs include wolves, lambs, insects, flowers, bees, shells, acanthus leaves, rocaille elements, and bunches of roses. Cabriole/S-shaped legs with acanthus-shaped volute feet; volute-topped recessed armrests on U-shaped supports; roughly rectangular slightly concave backrest with convex top and rounded corners; trapezoidal seat with slightly bulging frames. Function: seating piece. Dimensions: height 106.5 cm, width 77.5 cm, depth 79.4 cm., A decorative armchair with a carved gilded wooden frame and curved legs upholstered in patterned fabric; the upholstery shows floral and ornamental designs in shades of pink, green, beige, cream, and muted blue, with trim along the edges; the frame is gold in color with ornate scrollwork and carved details on the arms, back, and legs; the background is a smooth light gray.
